INTRODUCTION

Human resource management are managing of all resources and people in the organization (Bratton and Gold, 2017). It includes a process that is planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling etc. Through applying of these functions company can easily satisfy the customers. Thus they can earn more revenues and they can also increase their market share. This helps them to easily expand and diversify the business. Project describes about the Thomson corporation which publishes books for many organizations. It was found in 1989 in U.K. Assignment explains about the purpose and scope of human resource management so that they can easily accomplish the objectives. It also explains about the effectiveness of key factors of personnel department in firm. It further describes about the internal and external factors which can influence human resource decisions such as employment legislation. It also explains about the application of human resources in work related context.

Various functions are performed by the organization. It is crucial so that company can easily accomplish their objectives. Thus goals of Thomas corporation are:

Recruitment: Firm uses various methods and processes so that they can select talented workers in the firm. Thus as a result they can easily perform well and thus Thomas corporation can earn more revenues and hence they can also increase their market share.

Training and development: Manager organizes various training seminars and programmes so that they can easily deliver suitable training to all employees. Thus workers can easily publish their books and hence they can maintain good reputation in the market.

Performance appraisal: Manager try to evaluate the performance of all staff members. They set targets for the employees ad hence then they monitor the performance of all workers. Through this they can give corrective actions to improve performance of workers.

Managerial functions:

Planning: HR manager of Thomas corporation creates different policies and methods so that they can manage all resources in the firm (Brewster, 2017). They create planning of various activities and hence they give instruction to all members so that staff members can easily perform all tasks.

Organizing: In this process all staff members are given various resources so that they can perform different task in the firm (Brewster, Mayrhofer and Morley, 2016). Through this they can finish the activities in minimum time.

Directing: In this manager motivates all staff members so that they can perform task in an efficient manner. Thus employees can manage all task in an effective manner and thus they can give best results.

Controlling: In this process manager can compare the actual with the standard performance of all staff members. Thus they give corrective steps and relevant training so that they can easily accomplish their objectives.

Purpose of HRM:

Reduces employee turnover: HR manager deliver appropriate training to all employees and also solve their issues. Through this steps they can easily enhance their performance. Thus they do not leave their job.

Reduces issues: HR manager tries to solve al issues and conflicts in the firm so that they can perform better. Through thus all workers work with their full potential and zeal. Hence they give superior results.

Recruitment and termination: HR manager can use various methods to select talented employees and they can also terminate the employees. Both functions are important in the company.

In this method Thomas corporation selects employees from the company and do not use external source. Strengths and weakness are:

Strengths:

Reduces costs: HR manager delivers employees from the company. Thus it results in decreasing of costs. Hence this money can used for other profitable purposes. Thus it results in enhancing the performance of firm. Thus Thomas corporation can earn more revenues and they can enhance market share (Certo, 2018). Hence they can also maintain unique position in the market as well as in front of all users.

Knowledge of person: As existing employees already work in firm thus manager have full knowledge of existing staff members. Thus as a result they work in a better manner. Thus it results in improving performance of workers. Thus as a result they can give best outcomes. Hence firm can easily accomplish their objectives. Through this they can easily maintain unique and good position in minds of all workers (Disch, 2016).

Weakness:

Less choices: Thomas corporation have very less choices to select staff members as existing employees are selected from company. Thus they cannot bring fresh talent in the firm. Hence they cannot bring new ideas in firm. Hence firm cannot perform better as existing employees cannot give good results in company. Thus firm cannot earn more revenues.

Training new person: Existing employees do no have knowledge of new jobs. Thus as a manager have to provide training to new employees so that they can perform better. It takes huge costs for company as they use various methods so that employees can learn about different and new skills. Through this they cannot use this money on other activities and tasks. Thus a a result they cannot give hood results.

External recruitment:

When staff members select staff members from outside firm then it is known as external recruitment. Strengths and weakness are:

Strengths:

New talent:

Thomas corporation can bring new talent in the organization they select employees from external source. Hence new workers can give new ideas through which activities are managed more properly as compared to previous times. Hence they can give distinct and innovative idea in the firm so that employees can give best outcomes in company. Hence firm can easily maintain unique and good position in the market as well as in front of all customers.

Improves diversity: It selects staff members from all religions and they do not make any difference in recruiting the staff members (Friedman, 2017). Thus as a result firm can easily bring diversity in the firm and hence they promotes equality in the organization. Thus as a result they can easily enhance the performance of firm. Hence they can earn more profits and can increase the reputation in the market.

Weakness:

No knowledge of person: HR manager takes information of candidate by taking the interview but it then also they cannot receive full data regrading the applicant. Due to this firm cannot perform better. Hence they cannot achieve their objectives (Marchington, and et. al., 2016). So they have to create methods so that they can receive full information about candidate. Hence as a result firm cannot enhance their performance.

Communication gap: Manager us not familiar is with the candidate as they do not belong to company. Hence there is lack of communication between manager and employees. Hence manager cannot interact with all staff members. Thus employees cannot perform well in the firm. Hence they cannot give good results. Thus firm cannot maintain distinct position market as well in front of users.

Third-party recruitment:

When company selects consultancy and thus an agency selects employees then it is known a third party recruitment. Strengths and weakness are:

Strengths:

Good relationship: Company tries to create strong and good relationship with workers so that they can perform well. Consultancy takes interview and takes information with applicant. They also interacts with applicant and tell about the company and also solve their issues. Hence they can maintain strong relationship with the applicant.

Candidate monitoring: In this process consultancy selects right applicant who is suitable for the job. Thus form can perform well.

Weakness:

Lack of control: Thomas corporation do not interfere in work done by consultancy. Thus they cannot take any decisions.

Indirect access: Thomas corporation has to maintain trust on company that they have use rational and fair methods to select staff members. As firm do not interfere much so hence it cannot monitor the work of agency properly (Nica, 2016).
