Managing people is one of the important task that need to consider by every manger in an particular organisation in order to accomplish all the objectives and goals of organisation. Further, it is an duty of HR manager to formulate different policies and strategies for recruitment, selection and training development of employees. Under this assignment the company which is preferred i.e. Marks and Spencer which is UK based retail industry deals in retail clothes, grocery and comprises of large employees who have to deal with the external changes and requirement of customers they want in respect of their products and services and for that manager provide time to time training and motivational classes for enhancing their growth and development (Bush and Middlewood ,2013).
Importance of Motivation in workplace
According to Dolan , Eisler and Raich ,2010 As a manager of Marks and Spencer I need to consider all the aspect and criteria through which I able to prepare an team which are capable of performing all the task and objectives in effective and efficient manner. Therefore in order to run the business smoothly I need to framed appropriate policies and procedures in related to recruitment selection process, planning for organising training development programmes and mechanism which need to adopted at the time of facing challenges of rivalry in retail sector. The main advantage that I got is maintenance of harmony and peace through which team work is possible. Apart from it, it is essential for me that whatever the programmes which has been conducted give motivation to employees or not.
Apart from it, I need to consider the ways through which I able to select the employees which are competent for vacant job positions. Further, select appropriate theory of recruitment and selection in which with the help of HR manager I able to recruit eligible candidates in which I have to choose decision regrading selection of whether internal and external source on the basis of cost incurred and financial position of business. The main objective behind it is to get the better outcomes of selection. Further I need to analyse the internal condition of employees under which I have to measure whatever the theory I selected always motivated to workforce and does not have negative impact on business. From the practical context it is essential for me to use such measure and mechanism through which I able to select right candidate for right position at right time. If I select internal source then I must posses adequate knowledge regarding the skills abilities of employees on the basis of which I can select better person. On the other if I select external source then I need to use tools like advertising, social media and online sites through which I describe the eligibility criteria for which candidate apply for post. The main objective is to establish such capable team which give maximum output to business.
Further I need to focus on personality traits among individuals on the basis of which person able to perform work in organisation. Personality traits means all the characteristics, quality and ability that distinguish the person from others. Under this I need to understand various attributes like behaviour, skills and knowledge posses in person through which they perform all the task of company effectively. The application which were generally used in personality traits are five factor mode which include namely, openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism which purely define the individual personality. As a manager of M&S I need to find out the nature, behaviour and needs of workforce through these applications and on the basis of research and findings I need to organise such events, training programmes and other important things through which they enhance professionalism and growth of employees and motivate them to work effectively in team that allow them to maintain better relationship between superior and subordinate. Further employees which the guidance of mine as a manager adopt all the changes which are coming in organisation structure that allow me to grab easily all the market opportunities that help in maximising sales and profitability of business. Further I can concentrate on other important matters of business if my workforce work in team without any conflicts and disputes. This will help in maintaining the motivational factor among employees so they use their skill in achieving daily targets in appropriate manner.
Apart from this as a manager I must prepare myself for all the challenges coming in environment at the time of engaging in particular project because at that time my main responsibility is to lead the whole team in such manner that allow them to maintain harmony and peace in working place and all the problems are solved mutually without any errors. According to Dunning , Sinclair and Colagiuri ,2014 Marks and Spencer is big organisation comprises of large staff which perform different activities in various department therefore it is essential for business to adopt such measures that allow them to fulfils their organisation objectives effectively. In business there are different issues and challenges which are facing by company so as a manager I need to focus on all the problems and conflicts that are facing by employees in their working performance on the basis of which I need to evaluate whole situation and then come with such mechanism having different alternative solutions through which I can use these alternative solution in different situation that help in giving better outcomes in future. For the success and long sustainability of business features like team work, effective communication, strategic planning, techniques for employee development and standardised quality of products and services must be present which allow organisation to enhance their goodwill and brand equity at global level.
Further motivation plays an important role in improving the work performance of employees and enhance the growth of organisation. For proper motivation I need to discuss with workforce regarding the goals and objectives of business and then induce employees to take active participation for given their opinion, suggestions which help me at the time of taking rational decision making. Further, I must plan to organise the training programmes of employees in which guidance regarding all the modern techniques and innovation coming in product segment are acknowledge on the basis of which employees put their own methods through which he or she improve their working quality in effective manner. Next thing I want to execute is the implementation of rewards policy in which those employees who perform well are rewarded by incentives and promotion also. As a manager of M&S utmost duty of mine is to understand mission and objective of business and motivate employees to perform well in order to accomplish organisational objectives in better manner.
It has been concluded from the above assignment that managing people is complex task so it is utmost duty of manager to communicate with every employees in order to know their skills and abilities on the basis which they guide workforce that how effectively they use their talent in their daily task. Further, manager must concentrate on the techniques they are using for recruitment selection and mechanism they like to use for maintaining team work and productivity in business.
