Introduction

Digital technologies are those technologies which exists where digital information and physical resources combines in a new ways to create value and profitability. Business organizations seeking digital edge transforms process, business models and the customer experience by exploiting the pervasive digital connections between systems, people, place and things (Pink, 2016). These technologies not only aid in reducing time, efforts and cost of the organization but also assist in providing competitive advantages to the companies. In this context, the focus of present research study will be on analyzing the implications of digital technologies on daily business operations of Tesco. Tesco is one of the leading retail and supermarket incorporating in United Kingdom. The organization has over 6600 stores worldwide and possesses enormous level of customers. The management of Tesco is widely known for implementing advance technologies within their organizational framework. In this context, the researcher will be conducting research in order to obtain information about the impact of digital technologies on organization.

Researcher will comprehend the terminology by creating robust argument in the research in the form of literature review. The research methods that will use by researcher in this research will be elaborate and timeline of the activities will be depict in the form of Gantt Chart. In order to attain the aim and objectives of research study, researcher will conduct questionnaire survey at Tesco, London where the participants will be managers working within the organization. In this context, the aim and objectives of research study is formulated below:

According to Davies, Coleman and Livingstone, (2015) digital technologies are those technologies which are used by organizations and management in order to reduce or eliminate manual efforts and enhance the quality of products and services manufactured by them. In global competitive environment, it becomes rudimentary for business organizations to invest and implement in digital technologies like cloud computing, social media marketing, Internet of Things, mobile communication technologies, web based applications, etc. to enhance the profitability and productivity of the organization. Groshen and et.al., (2017) elaborated that digital technologies are significant for organizations as these technologies have replaced traditional methods of conducting business activities.

From marketing to managing human resource, from production to distribution, digital technologies have reduced the time, efforts and cost of the organization and help them in accomplishing their set business goals and targets effectively and efficiently. In order to sustain in competitive environment it is essential for business organizations to invest in precise digital technologies and implement it within the business framework so that common goals and objectives of organization can be attain. Robinson and et.al., (2015) argued that digital technologies indeed aid in enhancing the profitability and growth of organization but at the same time it increases complexities and stress within the organization. Employees have to deal with loads of tech in order to comprehend and exploit them.

Impacts of digital technologies

Hämmerle and et.al., (2015) elucidated that digital technologies both positively and negatively impact on the organization. It helps in increasing the quality and quantity of products and services of the organization and at the same time it increases complexities within the organization. Digital technologies establish well defined and efficient structure of information system within the organization through which management can easily able to communicate, coordinate and interact with each other.

As compared with traditional methods of doing activities, digital methods have made significant impact on the organization. Matt, Hess and Benlian, (2015) said that digital technologies aid in enhancing the profitability and productivity of the organization. It fosters employees’ motivation and satisfaction by eroding conflicts within the organization. Through digital technologies like video conferencing, management need not have to waste time in travelling as they can communicate within office premises. Ball, Ladel and Siller, (2018) argued that machines have now replaced man. In present era, management prefers machines over man which increases unemployment rate within the economy. No doubt digital technologies transform the perspective of organization and made it more robust but it also hinders employee’s growth and development. Furthermore, it also increases the cost of organization as they have to train their workforce efficiently so that they can handle and control these technologies effectively.

Challenges of digital technologies

Pink, (2016) said that digital technologies help in enhancing the profitability and productivity of the organization but it also increases complexities and challenges for managers simultaneously. There are ample of challenges which are associated with the implications of digital technologies which managers faced while exploiting it. Davies, Coleman and Livingstone, (2015) connotes that managers and management faced challenge of identifying precise and appropriate technologies which suits their purpose. There are loads of technologies available in the market which helps in reducing the manual efforts and enhancing the productivity of the organization. Managers found it difficult to detect and track optimum technologies which fit to their production line. Groshen and et.al., (2017) said that another challenge faced by the managers is providing training and development to the employees. Training is essential for raising skills and abilities of employees. It becomes difficult for the management to provide effective training and development to employees as it requires sufficient amount of budget which could affects the financial position of the organization.

Research Approach and methodology

Research methodologies are framework of research study. In order to attain the aim and objectives of research study, it is essential for the researcher to describe the methods of research which he or she will going to use in the research study. In this context, the research methods are described below:

Research Philosophy: Research philosophy deals with source, nature and development of knowledge. There are four types of research philosophy used by researchers in the present study, researcher will use positivism research philosophy.

Research Approach: Discussion of research approach is rudimentary in research study. In the present research study, researcher will use inductive approach of research. As researcher needs to quantify research questions, inductive research approach will be most precise.

Research Design: Research design is general plans which are formulated by researcher in order to attain research questions. In present research study, researcher will use exploratory research design.

Research Strategy: Research strategies are plans which helps researcher in attaining the aim and objective of research study. In present research, researcher will use quantitative research strategy.

Data Collection: Data collection is process of gathering relevant research data. In present research study, researcher will collect data by using questionnaire research instrument. It will be provided to the managers of Tesco. They have to complete it within two days.

Sampling: Sampling is the process of taking small population for data collection in order to collect data effectively and efficiently. Sampling is essential process and in the present research researcher will take a sample of 25 managers working at Tesco randomly and provide them questionnaire.

Data Analysis: Data analysis is the process of converting raw data into meaningful information. In the present research study, researcher will use thematic analysis to interpret the collected data.

Ethical Consideration: Ethical consideration are important in research study. Researcher in the present research will elaborate the motive of study to the participant in order to gain their consent.
