Scenario 1
You have been asked to come up with a report on adopting a Leadership and Management Development programme as you work for a large city-based organisation which is considering to prepare its staff for futureleadership and management roles. Briefly analyse between ‘Leadership’ and ‘Management’. Give some suggestions on what you feel about the Situational and Contingency theories of leadership and how they could adopt the key principles into an appropriate programme of development for the organisation.
Compile a report explaining;
a) Evaluate the differences and similarities between a leader and manager considering their roles and characteristics.
b) Explain the functions of a manager according to Fayol and how a manager performs these functions in your organisation, using various examples.
c) Demonstrate the situational leadership, systems leadership and contingency leadership using various scenarios in your organisation

Scenario 2
You are invited to give a talk in a seminar to a group of students about operations management as a manager of a large retail store such as a supermarket or building materials store.
You have been given a list of questions from students to prepare yourself before the seminar;
1. Describe different approaches to operations management and what is used in your store.
2. Determine what makes your role as a store manager a classic example of an operations manager.
3. Evaluate the importance of operations management in your store.
4. Analyse the key factors that can have an effect on the operations management for your organisation.
5. How these factors affect your decision making as a store manager?
