Employee Relations in Global Era

Employee relations has taken over industrial relations as the term for determining the relationship between employers and employees. Today, employee relations can be seen as focusing on both individual and collective relationships in the workplace, with an increasing emphasis on helping line managers that is established through trust-based relationships with employees. A positive climate of employee relations can improve business outcomes as well as contribute to the well-being of employees with high levels of employee involvement, commitment and engagement.

The issue of Employee relations stem from various aspects of employment and labour law. The employee relations issues that are faced by employers includes legal issues such as workplace harassment, discrimination and equal opportunity. Employers are obligated to investigate harassment and discrimination allegations in the workplace and provide a possible remedy to the situation. They must also reasonably accommodate workers who require modification of job duties because of disability or pregnancy.

There is no individual who can work alone. The support and guidance of his fellow workers is required to come out with a brilliant idea and deliver his level best. It is essential that the employees must be comfortable with each other for a healthy environment at work. It is the primary duty of the seniors and team leaders to discourage conflicts in the team and encourage a healthy relationship among employees.

Life is really short and it is very essential that all employees should enjoy each and every moment of it. Remember you are paid for your hard work in an organisation and not for cribbing or fighting with each other. There is no individual who can work alone.

Scenario

You are working as an employee of an organisation and use the current work place experience to represent the relevant knowledge. With reference to the above given “food for thought” learners must use the respective knowledge to answer the assessment tasks.

  1. Learners will evaluate how stakeholder engagement and contribution can support positive employment relationships within an organisation such as, Determining positive employee relationships, effective relationship management.

Activity 4

  1. Learners will analyse how positive and negative employee relationships can affect conflict avoidance and resolution such as, managing conflict, impact of negative relationships on employee motivation, employee welfare.
